Online Study Options for Mature Aged Students

Online Studying for Old Students

If you have decided to return to study, whether that be a one of many small business courses required for properly licensing your growing small business, or you are studying out of personal interest, you will be confronted with a number of issues as a mature-age student. The population of mature-age students in universities, for example, is on the increase, but at the same time, in many cases you, will be surrounded by people younger than your age.

This can be very frustrating for the mature-age student, and this is coming from someone who has had the experience. In this article, we look at some of the strategies to get the further education you need, and study in a more mature environment. Online studies are a very good way for mature-age students to get the education they need. Here are some of the very real reasons why.

Time Constraints

Most adults will have many more responsibilities than compared with their counterparts. The act of actually going to a school, while you are working, looking after your family, and keeping your life afloat, can be extremely stressful. Online studies remove the need for physical attendance. This will require some personal management on your behalf, and those around you will have to understand when you are studying at home, you are not to be disturbed. It is important to sit down with those friends and family that may influence and disturb your study program, and clearly spell out to them your requests and reasons why. In most cases, this will stop problems from arising.

Financial Costs

Online courses allow any school to have more students and reduce the structural needs of catering for those students. If you want to study English, for example, you will find the fees for these study programs are much lower than schools where attendance is required. You can get the same qualifications in the end, and yet you will save a lot of money on fees. You can also save money in the cost of going to school. Transport, car parking and just the costs of having a coffee can soon add up.

Annoyance

Let’s face it, most younger students live in a completely different world to mature-age students. A mature-age student is looking to get everything they possibly can, out of their study. Teenagers live in a social world, and going to a lecture or attending class is as much of a social occasion as it is a place to learn. This can be particularly annoying as a mature-age student, especially when there is a lot riding on your studies, and you have a lot of other issues going on in your life.

Pace of Study

In most cases, in a traditional school the pace of study is dictated by the classes, and the timing of the lectures. This is not always the case with online studies. Most online studies will have an absolute deadline for completion, and you can study at your own pace. When I returned to study as a mature-age student, I was completely frustrated with the slow pace of a full university year. I could have completed the learning and workload in a matter of months. Even government accredited training certificates and the like in Australia, for example, allow students to move at their own pace.

Keeping your life together, managing your income and managing your family are hard enough. If you are considering mature-age education and further studies, look for the online solution for you.
